Use it

When I was a small child, someone told me that the moon is lighting because it reflects the light from the sun. It was a kind of shock to me because I had thought that it was glowing on its own. I was also very much disappointed that such an existence of fantasy and romance, where Princess Kaguya was said to live, was suddenly reduced to just a shin-nibbler.
Not long after that, I discovered one thing. I noticed that I can tell in which direction the sun is located now by just looking at the moon. It was very easy. When it is full moon the sun is always in the opposite direction of the moon although it can't be seen. When it is a quarter moon, the sun is located 90 degrees left or right to the moon. I was excited about the discovery and told the idea to everyone around me. They all said "You must be a genius" kind of thing, which by the way later turned out to be wrong. Encouraged by the complements I made a further discovery that we can tell the time just looking at the shape and the position of the moon. For a simple example, when a full moon is in the mid-south it is midnight.
The point here is that it was "I" that thought of it. Of course the idea was nothing new nor big deal. Even so the fact that I, no other people, discovered the idea cannot be denied. It is just a matter of fluke if I happen to be the first one to discover. I was not that blessed, and has never been blessed for that matter.
I brought up this, partly boasting what a genius I was, because there seem so many young people who are crammed with knowledge day after day at school or "cram school" but never look at the knowledge as something they have to use or apply in any ways. They often say there is no use studying a certain subject and very unwillingly study it. But I assure any knowledge is useful. Take learning Japanese classic literature, which most of you think useless, for example. You can play with the words you learned. It even sounds cool when young people use such words like 「彼女まじヤンゴトナイよな。」 It will enrich your conversation for sure. (でもないか...)
We need to always keep an attitude of using our knowledge throughout learning. How do we use it? It requires creativity. But being creative is the very thing that makes our lives more interesting.
Just having dead knowledge is like you don't have anything at all. That's why learning is so boring to you. You have to assimilate, combine, fuse together, apply what you have just learned. You have to create your own opinion out of it until you realize your opinion is nothing special and as important as or as trivial as others'. If you have to learn something any way, why don't you enjoy it? Do not blame your teacher if he or she is mean and not interesting. You are the one to be blamed for being lazy about trying to make it interesting.
By the way, this blog is opened in an attempt to let you use your English knowledge and whatever you have learned. If you cannot write here you are one of the followings.
1) You feel ashamed of your English knowledge.
2) You don't have any opinion to say. Or belittle your opinion if you have.
3) You read this blog but you think it is not worth saying anything in.
If you are the Type 1), study more.
If you are the Type 2) Think more.
If you are the Type 3) I am sorry.
