Tax and eel

Once a year we, freelance workers, are obliged to file our income tax(確定申告). It is troublesome indeed for a man like me who is a bit impractical about worldly things. I am working. So it cannot be helped. I can manage. But it is next to impossible for my mother, pensioner, Type B, over 80 years old and ... single by the way to fill out all the documents to report her income including gain or loss in stock exchange. So she needs someone to do it.
Conveniently she has a daughter, Type O, who professionally takes care of such worldly affairs. Every year she does everything for her mother to get her overtaxed money back from the government. Mother is happy as if to get her cheated money back, so grateful that she treats a bowl of eel and rice (うなどん), of all things, not just to her daughter but to all her family and my family.
Today was the day we all savored the rich taste of elaborately grilled eel on rice with teriyaki sauce, enjoying talk about worldly things. Nothing special but I feel blessed and privileged to be able to share the peaceful time with those people who happened to be born in this world with their lives overlapping each other, to be engaged in worldly affairs. When it is over it is just that. Tomorrow may be a hard day or another happy day but is no less important than today.

This was written 2 days ago. It turned out that "tomorrow" was a hard day. Another severe headache at the office made me almost impossible to follow English spoken at the meeting. And the meeting continued from morning till night. I was dead tired and when I came home, I did not feel like doing anything. But I read your comments in the blog and felt relaxed. Thank you all as usual.
