Dedication

The other day an ex-student of mine called me to invite me to a concert where she would play the trumpet. She was very diligent in both trumpet practice and studying English, a little bit in favor of trumpet perhaps, throughout her high school life. It is safe to say that she devoted her 3 years to this concert.
I went with my wife yesterday. I had thought it would be performed at a small concert hall but actually it was a large hall with a big audience. When we got there there were no seats but near the end of the row where we could barely see the faces of the players. I managed to identify a player as her. It is always good to see someone deeply involved in doing something. This time I could see she was the one even from the distance. She looked beautiful. When she played a solo part she played it out with a confidence mixed with a bit of shyness of a young girl who plays in front of a large audience which made her look all the more charming. I was sure that she was experiencing what cannot be taught, far more important than learning just a language; English.
Regrettably I had to left there in the middle of the concert, but still I was glad to come. It reminded me of something I was beginning to forget. It is hard to describe but something like "To lead a subjective life to the extent of objective."
I really hope the young girl will keep up her dedication to whatever she pleases throughout her life.
