Cultural exchange

He came from northern England, stayed 3 weeks with our family, fully enjoyed boiling heat here in Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima, and last week went back to his country, where the highest temperature is only 15 degree Celsius.
Unlike most of the young western people, he was not at all picky about food. He ate up anything served on the table, from ikura to natto, which pleased my wife immensely. She cooked very ordinary Japanese food that we eat everyday, and he not just ate every one of them but did not forget to say "amazing" or "incredible", hopefully meaning it was good. It may be a part of the reason why he is this big.
According to him, there are very few kinds of food that he can call English food. Meals for them are just a means to intake energy. So they eat small amount of them but instead have snacks anytime anywhere. That eating habit makes almost everyone big. It struck home to him.
That's good. That's what the exchange student program is for.
We hope we can see a slimmer version of him next time if this experience really taught him anything at all.
