Come on. It’s not such a big deal.

Oh come on, it's not such a big deal!

Kumi Koda is a sexy pop icon in Japan but have got an object of bashing recently. From what I heard, she said at a radio talk show to the effect "My manager has to have a baby soon because when we turn 35, the water in our womb (amniotic water) goes stale." Somehow mass media played up this comment and rapidly made it up into a big scandal. So big so that a cosmetic maker even suspended commercials that feature her and her agency announced a pause to all her promotional activities in the meantime. She finally apologized for the remark.
Women these days tend to start families later in their lives in this country, possibly because of the increasing number of working women. I can understand how much those women are scared of the risk of old-age child-bearing. But does a stupid comment from a naive and ignorant girl really offend those people? If so they are the ones who should think about themselves. If we make such ado about a small comment based on a misled information, we always have to be tense and careful whenever we talk. Talk shows will become boring. We will not be able to know the personality of a politician by listening to his speech, if he, for fear of making a mistake, always makes it innocuous. What I don't like about this idea above all is that it will prevent free flow of our thinking." Pipe gets clogged." Clogged by a fear of making a mistake.
This kind of mistakes are something we should enjoy or laugh off in stead of taking it seriously and hysterically protesting. People's mentality or inclination toward bashing has the same root as our deep-seated favor of bullying. If we want to stop bullying we have to be aware of the neurotic disposition about other peoples' small mistakes.
Maybe we have to say "Come on. It's not such a big deal." more.
