At last

It was very warm yesterday. Also windy. Weather report said it was the first spring gale (春一番). Today cold weather comes back again.
About this time of the year we have a type of weather we call "three cold days, four warm days (三寒四温)". This cyclic weather is due to the 7-day periodic change of high pressure system in Siberia. Why? You know, 3 and 4 makes 7.
When we begin to have this weather we know that spring is just around the corner. This is the time when I most appreciate that I was born in a country of distinctive four seasons. The cold gradually lets up while going back and forth between warm and cold until finally gives way to the long awaited spring. It brings home to me that the spring would not be that much appreciated, were it not for the long cold winter. A warmer winter is certainly better for us but we lose in exchange the blessing the spring gives us. In the middle of the winter I like a warmer winter and around this time I like a colder winter. Maybe I am a bit schizophrenic, hopefully like you.
