60 days

As of today, I have kept this blog for 60 days. I would like to thank all of you readers, including what suiren called "lurking" readers, for the inspiration.
Now I have a report to write to my client which is due in about a month. This makes me quite busy. Just writing a report is not such a big load for me but what I am doing now is to come up with a physical or chemical model for a phenomenon of importance and validate the model through computer simulation. This type of work is mostly frustrating and rarely rewarding because you have no idea at all about whether you will be able to achieve the result you want or your client demands. This is what research is all about. If you are lucky you can arrive at your goal, but most of the cases you are not. In that case all you can do is to describe, with some cosmetic modification, what you have done, what you think was the problem and what part of the result was still useful for the client. In short, you have to show how you did your best and how you failed for all your best effort, until you convince your client that there is no other way but to accept the result. That's the way of the research world.
But in the course of research, every once in a while, you stumble upon small new things that we can call discovery. This is the moment you feel rewarded.
Life is more or less like this. You can't predict the result. Most of the cases the result is neutral, not so bad or not so good. You have to show yourself that how you did your best and how you failed for all your best effort. But along the way we stumble upon small new things. If this is the case, shouldn't we appreciate them more?
