When I first heard of the "black hole", I was very much worried about it. It was when I was 13. If it is so heavy that it absorbs everything, even light, right into its center, sooner or later it will gulp our planet.
You know, it gains its weight every time it swallows anything around it, strengthening its pulling force called gravity, which further more improves its appetite until it eats up everything in the universe. It may be compared to a woman around you who always wants to eat, which makes her gain weight, resulting in more energy consumption, which creates more appetite in her. Moments like this are the same kind of vacuum; no matter what you cling to, you wind up being sucked in.
It is said that every galaxy most likely has in its center a black hole. Ours is no exception. At the core of the milky way, we have a big black hole, opening its mouth, waiting to swallow us. Milky way is a remnant of blown up materials of the Big Bang, currently under the process of meeting together again, that is an reorganizing process. So, depending on how you look at it, it is like hastily raking together the scattered jewels back into a jewel box you knocked over by mistake. But however beautifully described we may have to get back to the bottomless abyss of jewel box.
The existence of the blackhole was predicted by the "special theory of relativity". This is one of the most revolutionary theories that the humans have ever seen. However, it proved to be still imperfect since it lacked the aspect of another greatest theory; the quantum theory. The new theory tells you, in short, anything can happen in the world of extreme minuteness. You could be here and there at the same time. Everything is blurry. In this world of smallness, some of you could jump over the Mt Everest if you are great many in number. So, the theory predicts you cannot predict anything at all in a exact sense.
Black holes are small, because they shrink by their own gravity force. If it becomes small enough to a size we can call as "extreme minuteness", some of you start to escape from the ultimate trap of the black hole because you can be inside the black hole and outside at the same time. This is only a matter of probability. Still you stay in the blackhole with an overwhelming probability but you still have a chance to stay outside of it. Thus a blackhole begins to evaporate. Some scientists call black hole as "gray hole" since it is not completely black that absorbs everything but it also returns something from inside.
The important thing is, this is not just a story. Don't take it as one of SF stories. The common law is working inside us. In a way we are the same as the blackholes and gray holes and stars and planets. You will surely be swallowed in a blackhole and escape from it probably in milliards of years depending on who you think you are. You can die without knowing this fact. But remember this is the scientific truth.
